Herd Management
I prefer to bottle raise a few select does or bucklings, and dam raise the rest. All the goats have free access to pasture, which includes a variety of shrubs, weeds and grasses during the summer. Good quality grass and alfalfa hay is given during the winter. My milking girls and pregnant does get a mix of oats, sunflower seeds, and alfalfa pellets. Pregnant does also get a shot of Bo-Se before kidding. Free choice loose minerals and baking soda is available to them year round. Besides annual vaccines, we are hormone, and pesticide free.
Lamancha History
Lamancha dairy goats, developed in the mid 1960s, are the only breed that originated in the United States. They are significantly different from the other goat breeds for a few reasons. They are a smaller in stature with the ability to milk like the larger breeds with a butterfat content of 4.2%. Plus they have tiny ears! They are super friendly and always very curious. If you're unsure of what breed of goat to get, consider these adorable, ear-less goats!
